Captcha images
We've all seen them, those blurry images containing a selection of letters and numbers that you are asked to type in at te end of a form. Well they're not just there to look pretty, they actually serve a real purpose.
Using sophisticated tools, spammers are able to find forms designed to send important information, and once found are able to hijack those forms and use them for their own purposes. Imagine finding one morning that your web site has been used to send thousands of unsolicited emails, selling something nasty, or even a rival product.
The Captcha images, as they are known, add a human element to the form, preventing the spammers using automated tools to send the forms.
Try it out. The form opposite is fully functional, and will simply tell you if you entered the correct code or not. Obviously this can be far more sophisticated, letting your web site know whether an email should be sent, etc.
